PSL 2025 postponed for an indefinite period due to Pak-India Crisis

In a major and unfortunate development, PSL 2025 postponed due to increasing border tensions between Pakistan and India. The decision was made because of security concerns and the mental stress these tensions caused, especially for foreign players and their families. The uncertainty and safety issues surrounding the situation led to the indefinite postponement of the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025.

This decision came directly under the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, as the national leadership felt it was not the right time to continue the tournament in such uncertain conditions.

Why Was PSL 2025 Postponed?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement saying the move was made to ensure the mental well-being and safety of all players, especially the overseas cricketers. Many foreign players had expressed concern for their safety, and some of their families even requested them to return home.

The PCB respected these emotions and decided to pause the tournament until the situation improves.

Interestingly, just a day before this announcement, PCB had planned to shift the remaining 8 PSL 2025 matches to the UAE, with hopes to resume the tournament by next week. Although the dates and venues were not finalized, the board was confident the event could continue abroad.

But things took a sharp turn, And this is the main reason for PSL 2025 postponed.

On Thursday, a big match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi was scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, following an emergency meeting, the match was canceled, and the PCB began serious discussions with foreign players and stakeholders.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi spoke with international players and, based on their input, made the tough call to PSL 2025 postponed the league.

Here’s another surprise twist: the Along with PSL 2025 being postponed, IPL 2025 has also been postponed. This is because of rising tensions between Pakistan and India. This shows just how serious the situation is, affecting cricket on both sides of the border.

PCB’s Official Statement for PSL 2025 Postponed

In its official statement, the PCB thanked all players, broadcasters, fans, and sponsors for their ongoing support. The board said:

“Cricket brings joy and unity, but in these difficult times, we must respectfully pause”.

It was a heartfelt message that reflected the emotions behind this tough decision.

This isn’t the first time PSL had to move to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In fact, when the league began in 2016, it was entirely held in UAE. Even during COVID-19, parts of the tournament were played there due to health and safety concerns.

“Before PSL 2025 was postponed, according to the original schedule for 2025, the matches were planned as follows:

  • 4 matches were to be held in Rawalpindi.
  • 1 match was to be held in Multan.
  • The final 3 matches were scheduled for Lahore.

At first, there were no plans to move the event abroad, though Karachi was kept as a backup venue. But because of the current situation, everything has now been suspended.”
